Types of Flipkart ads: PLA, PCA, brand ads and which to run first (2026)

Flipkart sellers can run three families of ads: PLA (Product Listing Ads, per-click product tiles in search and browse), PCA (Product Contextual Ads, per-impression banners and video) and brand or display ads bought through Flipkart's brand solutions. Almost every seller should start with PLA, add PCA for reach, and treat brand ads as a media buy. This guide compares them.

PLA: the format every seller runs

PLA is the workhorse. It shows your product exactly when a shopper is looking for something like it, and it costs nothing until they click. Inside PLA you choose the bidding mode (Smart ROI or CPC) and the targeting (automatic or keyword). Nearly all of a typical seller's Flipkart ad spend sits here, and nearly all optimisation work is PLA work: search terms, negatives, bids, placements and budgets. The Flipkart PLA ads guide on this site covers that routine.

PCA: reach beyond search

PCA is the creative format. It is billed on impressions, shows on browse and product pages, and reaches shoppers who did not search for you. Flipkart's festive playlist claims that skipping PCA leaves around a fifth of visibility to competitors; take that as the platform's number. It suits sellers with a range of products, a launch, or a sale event, and it needs creative assets and a way to measure lift, because its own attributed ROI usually looks weak. The Flipkart PCA ads guide here covers the decision.

Brand and display ads: a media buy

Above self-serve, Flipkart sells brand solutions: homepage takeovers, category banners, event sponsorships during Big Billion Days and similar, and display inventory. These are bought as packages through Flipkart's ads team or agencies, priced in lakhs rather than hundreds, and measured on reach and brand metrics. Flipkart Ads' Saarthi programme for agencies and its Ads Academy courses sit around this layer. For most sellers below a few crore of annual sales, this is not where the money should go first.

Which to run first, by situation

  1. New seller, one or a few FSNs

PLA CPC with automatic targeting and a small daily budget. Nothing else until the listing converts.

  2. Established seller, steady sales

PLA Smart ROI on proven FSNs, PLA CPC on new ones, weekly search term and FSN report routine.

  3. Brand with a range

PLA as above, plus a PCA flight of about 20% of ad budget aimed at browse pages, measured on the lift in PLA and organic sales.

  4. Sale event

PLA budgets up 3 to 4x, top-of-search multipliers up on hero SKUs, PCA for category browse traffic, and if the budget allows, a brand package for the event page.

  5. Shopsy

Same PLA system and panel; the lower price points mean bids must be lower and Smart ROI targets higher.

Managing the formats together

PLA is where automation earns its keep, because it is the format with hundreds of keywords, FSNs and placement multipliers to review. BlooprintAI creates Flipkart PLA campaigns in bulk from one CSV, updates bids, budgets and placement multipliers in bulk, and shows PLA and PCA performance together in the Flipkart reporting dashboard, with an Excel export for the rest.

Frequently asked questions

What types of ads can a seller run on Flipkart?

Two self-serve formats, PLA (per-click product ads in search and browse) and PCA (per-impression banner and video ads on browse and product pages), plus managed brand and display packages bought through Flipkart's brand solutions team.

Which Flipkart ad type should a new seller start with?

PLA in CPC mode with automatic targeting and a small daily budget. It only charges for clicks, it captures shoppers already searching, and it produces the search term data you need for everything that follows.

What is the difference between PLA and PCA on Flipkart?

PLA is a sponsored product tile billed per click, matched to searches and browse. PCA is a banner or video creative billed per thousand impressions, matched to shopper context. PLA captures demand; PCA reaches shoppers who did not search for you.

Are Smart ROI and CPC different ad types?

No, they are two bidding modes inside PLA. Smart ROI lets Flipkart set bids to a target ROI; CPC lets you set keyword and placement bids yourself.

Do Shopsy ads work the same way?

Yes. Shopsy uses the same seller backend and ads system, so PLA campaigns and reports are the same. Lower price points mean lower affordable bids.

Does BlooprintAI support all Flipkart ad types?

BlooprintAI creates and optimises PLA campaigns and reports on PLA and PCA together. PCA and brand campaigns are set up in the Flipkart Ads panel or through Flipkart's team.
