How to run ads on Amazon India: a beginner's first month

To run ads on Amazon India, go to Advertising in Seller Central, choose Sponsored Products, create an automatic campaign for one or two products with a daily budget of at least ₹500, and leave it alone for a week. That is the whole first step. The rest of this guide is what to do in weeks two to four, which is where most beginners either learn or burn money.

Before you create anything

Check three things. The product has the Buy Box, because Sponsored Products only serve for the featured offer. The listing has a clean main image, a clear title and ideally a handful of reviews, because ads send shoppers to the page and the page does the selling. And you know your break-even ACoS, the ACoS at which an ad sale makes no profit; the break-even calculator takes two minutes.

Blooprint's Amazon ads guide for India covers every ad type and the full console. This page is only the first-month routine for someone who has never run a campaign.

Week 1: create one automatic campaign

  1. Open the console

Seller Central, menu, Advertising, Campaign Manager, Create campaign, Sponsored Products.

  2. Choose automatic targeting

Amazon picks the searches and product pages from your listing. It is the fastest way to learn which terms convert for you.

  3. Pick one or two products

Your best-reviewed, best-priced items. Not the whole catalogue.

  4. Set the budget and bid

A daily budget of ₹500 or more and the default bid Amazon suggests. SW Cybernetics, an agency, says below ₹300 a day you rarely get usable data.

  5. Choose the bidding strategy

Dynamic bids, down only. Amazon lowers the bid when a click looks unlikely to convert, which is the safe choice while you learn.

  6. Check the wallet

On Amazon India many seller accounts pay for ads from the seller ads wallet. Recharge it before launch or the campaign will not serve.

Week 2: read the search term report

After seven days, download the search term report. It lists the exact searches that triggered your ad, with clicks, spend and orders. Sort by spend. Terms that converted become exact-match keywords in a new manual campaign. Terms with ten or more clicks and no orders become negative exact keywords in the automatic campaign.

Do not judge the campaign by its first-week ACoS. Amazon attributes sales for seven days after each click, so the last few days are still filling in.

Weeks 3 and 4: manual campaign and first bid changes

  1. Create a manual exact campaign

Put the converting search terms in as exact-match keywords. Bid at or slightly above what they cost in the auto campaign.

  2. Keep the auto campaign running

It keeps finding new terms. Lower its bids a little so the manual campaign wins the terms you have moved.

  3. Adjust bids weekly, not daily

Keywords above your target ACoS: lower bids by 10 to 20%. Keywords well below target with few impressions: raise by 10 to 20%.

  4. Add a product-targeting ad group

Target the ASINs of close competitors whose prices are higher than yours.

Common beginner mistakes

  • Advertising every product at once with a small budget, so no product gets enough clicks to learn from.
  • Changing bids every day. Amazon needs time to learn and sales take up to seven days to be attributed.
  • Raising the budget on a campaign that is not spending it. That is a bid or eligibility problem, not a budget problem.
  • Leaving placement adjustments high. A seller on the Seller Central India forum found a ₹10 bid became ₹50 clicks with a 400% top-of-search adjustment.

When the routine outgrows the console

By month three you will have a few auto campaigns, a few manual ones, a few hundred keywords and a weekly routine of negatives and bid changes. BlooprintAI creates campaigns in bulk from one CSV, puts every keyword in one table you can filter by ACoS, CPC or spend, and applies bid changes in bulk after a summary. It does not bid for you; it takes the clicking out of the routine above.

Frequently asked questions

How do I run ads on Amazon India?

In Seller Central, open Advertising, then Campaign Manager, create a Sponsored Products campaign with automatic targeting, choose one or two products, set a daily budget and default bid, and launch. Recharge the ads wallet first if your account uses it.

How much should a beginner spend on Amazon ads in India?

At least ₹500 a day on one or two products, per SW Cybernetics, an agency. Less than about ₹300 a day rarely gives enough clicks to learn anything in a week.

Should beginners use automatic or manual campaigns on Amazon?

Start with automatic to find search terms that convert, then move the winners into a manual exact-match campaign from week three. Run both together after that.

Do I need Brand Registry to run Amazon ads?

Not for Sponsored Products, which any seller with the Buy Box can run. Sponsored Brands and most Sponsored Display options need Brand Registry.

How long do Amazon ads take to work?

Ads start serving within hours, but judge a campaign after at least a week and ideally a month, because sales are attributed for seven days after each click.
