Amazon PPC bid calculator

The highest CPC bid that still meets a target ACoS is selling price × conversion rate × target ACoS. Enter those three numbers for a keyword or product and this calculator returns the maximum bid in rupees. Bid below it and you are inside target; above it and every click on average loses against the target.

Formula
Max CPC = price × CVR × target ACoS
Inputs
Target ACoS %, selling price ₹, conversion rate %
Where CVR comes from
Orders ÷ clicks for the keyword, or the product if the keyword is new
Remember
Top-of-search adjustments multiply the bid you enter

Calculate the maximum bid

Conversion rate is orders divided by clicks. Use the keyword's own rate if it has enough clicks (50 or more is a fair start); otherwise use the product's rate from the campaign or search-term report.

Expected ad sales per click: –Maximum CPC bid: –Clicks per order: –

Worked example: a ₹999 product converts 8% of ad clicks, so each click is worth ₹79.92 of expected sales. With a 30% target ACoS you can spend 30% of that on the click: 79.92 × 0.30 = ₹23.98. Bid up to ₹24 and, at that conversion rate, ACoS lands at 30%. Bid ₹40 and ACoS lands near 50%.

The same arithmetic in reverse explains a high ACoS: with an actual CPC of ₹40 on this keyword, the conversion rate would need to be 13.3% to hit 30%.

Why the bid is not the CPC

The number you enter is a ceiling for the auction, and Amazon usually charges less than it. But two settings push the real CPC above your base bid. Placement adjustments multiply it: a ₹10 bid with a 200% top-of-search adjustment becomes ₹30 there. Dynamic bidding (up and down) can raise it by up to 100% at top of search. Amazon seller forum threads from India describe CPCs three to five times the bid for exactly this reason.

So calculate the maximum, then check what your placement adjustments do to it. If the calculator says ₹24 and your top-of-search adjustment is 100%, the base bid should be ₹12 for that placement to stay inside target.

Using the result

  1. Set the target per campaign

Use the break-even ACoS calculator for each product, then set a target below it.

  2. Pull conversion rates

From the search-term or targeting report, at keyword level where clicks allow.

  3. Compare max bid with current bid

Keywords bidding above their maximum are the first to cut; keywords well under it with good conversion are where to raise.

  4. Change in batches

Do not move bids by more than 20 to 30% in one step; conversion rate is an estimate and the auction reacts.

Do this for every keyword, not one

The formula is simple; the work is applying it to thousands of keywords each with its own conversion rate. BlooprintAI shows current bid, Amazon's suggested bid, CVR, ACoS and target ACoS for every keyword in one table, so you can filter the ones above target and change them in bulk with a summary before and a log after.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Amazon PPC bid formula?

Maximum CPC bid = selling price × conversion rate × target ACoS. A ₹999 product at 8% conversion with a 30% target gives 999 × 0.08 × 0.30 = ₹23.98.

Which conversion rate should I use?

The keyword's own orders ÷ clicks if it has enough clicks to trust, otherwise the product's overall ad conversion rate. Recalculate as the keyword gathers data.

Why is my actual CPC higher than my bid?

Placement adjustments (top of search, product pages) and dynamic bidding up and down multiply the base bid. A 200% top-of-search adjustment turns ₹10 into ₹30 there.

Should I bid the maximum?

No. The maximum is where ACoS equals target on average. Bid below it to leave room for conversion rate to vary, and raise it only on keywords whose data proves the rate.

Does Amazon's suggested bid replace this?

Suggested bids show what wins the auction, not what you can afford. Use the calculator for the ceiling and Amazon's suggestion for the floor of competitiveness.
