Keyword targeting in Flipkart ads is the PLA targeting mode where you choose the search terms your products should appear for, in exact or phrase match, instead of letting Flipkart pick them automatically. Sellers report a limit of 200 keywords and 200 negative keywords per campaign, and keyword targeting works in both CPC and Smart ROI campaigns.
When you create a PLA campaign you choose automatic or keyword targeting. With keyword targeting you add search terms, pick exact or phrase match for each, and add negative keywords to block terms you do not want. Exact match shows the ad when the search is the keyword or a close variant; phrase match shows it when the search contains the keyword in order. Flipkart's keyword recommendation tool suggests terms from shopper searches for your FSNs.
Worked example: a seller of a ₹699 cotton kurta runs a keyword campaign. After two weeks the search term report shows 'cotton kurta for women' spent ₹4,000 for ₹28,000 of revenue, ROI 7, while 'kurta set' spent ₹1,200 with no orders because shoppers wanted matching trousers. With a 25% margin, break-even ROI is 4. The seller raises the bid on the first, adds 'kurta set' as a negative, and moves ₹1,200 a fortnight to the term that pays.
Automatic targeting is still useful: run it alongside at a lower bid to discover terms, then move the converters into the keyword campaign. Blooprint's glossary on blooprint.in explains match types and negative keywords in general.
| Keyword targeting | Automatic targeting | |

| Control over spend | High | Low; negatives are the main lever |
| Discovery | Only what you add | Finds terms you did not think of |
| Best for | Proven terms, branded terms, sale-day bidding | New FSNs, finding keywords |
