What is blocked balance in Flipkart ads?

Blocked balance in Flipkart ads is money that Flipkart holds aside from your ads wallet or seller payout to cover the daily budgets of campaigns that are live. It is not spent yet, but you cannot use it elsewhere until the campaign ends or its budget is reduced, at which point the unused part is released.

How blocked balance works

Flipkart ads are prepaid in spirit: the wallet must be able to cover what your live campaigns could spend. When a campaign with a ₹2,000 daily budget goes live, Flipkart earmarks money to cover it, and the wallet summary splits your funds into available balance and blocked balance. As the day's clicks come in, spend moves out of the blocked amount; whatever the campaign did not spend is freed once the day settles or the campaign stops.

Worked example: you top up ₹20,000 and launch three campaigns with daily budgets of ₹2,000, ₹1,500 and ₹1,000. Ads Manager shows ₹4,500 blocked and ₹15,500 available. On a slow day the campaigns spend ₹2,600 in total; the ₹1,900 that was not spent is released, and the next day's ₹4,500 is blocked again. If the wallet cannot cover the blocked amount, campaigns stop serving even though the wallet is not at zero.

Sellers on forums report that a daily-budget campaign with no end date keeps Flipkart drawing on the sales balance rather than the wallet, which is what most people mean when they ask why money is blocked. That mechanism is reported by sellers and agency pages, not documented by Flipkart; check your own Ads Manager wallet page and Seller Hub payments before relying on it.

Why it matters

Blocked balance is the usual reason a campaign stops getting impressions while the wallet still shows money. It is also why a seller with many small campaigns sees a large blocked figure and a small available one: each campaign reserves its full daily budget, whether or not it ever spends it.

With Flipkart's Advertise Now, Pay Later option, spend is deducted from later payouts instead of a prepaid wallet; sellers on it report the reservation appears against the payout, so the blocked figure can show up in Seller Hub payments rather than the wallet.

How to keep blocked balance under control

  • Give every campaign an end date, or a budget rule, so budgets do not stay reserved after a sale period.
  • Pause campaigns that have not spent for a week; a paused campaign reserves nothing.
  • Set daily budgets close to actual spend. A ₹5,000 budget on a campaign that spends ₹800 blocks ₹4,200 for no reason.
  • Consolidate FSNs into fewer campaigns where the ROI is similar, so fewer daily budgets are reserved.
  • Download the ads invoice each month from Payments in Seller Hub to reconcile spend, GST and the wallet movement.

Frequently asked questions

What does blocked balance mean in Flipkart ads?

It is the amount Flipkart reserves from your ads wallet or payout to cover the daily budgets of live campaigns. It is not yet spent, and the unused portion is released when campaigns end or budgets drop.

Why is my Flipkart ads balance blocked?

Because campaigns are live with daily budgets. Each one reserves its budget in advance. Campaigns with no end date keep reserving every day, which sellers report can extend to the sales balance.

How do I release blocked balance in Flipkart ads?

Pause or end the campaigns reserving it, or reduce their daily budgets. The unspent amount returns to available balance once the day settles.

Is blocked balance the same as ad spend?

No. Ad spend is what clicks actually cost. Blocked balance is the reserve held to cover possible spend; only the spent part becomes a charge on your invoice.
