The Amazon seller ads wallet is a prepaid balance in Seller Central that pays for Sponsored Products, Brands and Display on Amazon India. Campaigns stop when it hits zero, it can go negative if spend outruns the balance, and its invoices carry 18% GST. This guide covers checking, topping up, invoices and refunds.
Amazon India moved many seller accounts from post-paid advertising invoices to a prepaid Seller Ads wallet. You add money in advance, ad spend is deducted daily, and campaigns pause when the balance runs out. Not every account is on the wallet; some still pay by card or from disbursements. Amazon's own Seller Ads Wallet video and the help page on payment methods describe the model.
For sellers, the practical effect is that the wallet is one more thing that can stop ads. A campaign that shows no spend on a Monday morning is often just an empty wallet from the weekend.
In Seller Central, go to the Advertising menu and open the ads wallet or billing section. The balance, recent deductions and top-up history are shown there.
Recharge by the payment options offered in your account, typically net banking, UPI or card. The amount is credited to the wallet, not to a campaign.
Decide the balance at which you top up. A useful rule is at least a week of average daily spend, and two weeks before a sale event.
Daily deductions should match the spend in your campaign reports. If they do not, the difference is usually GST or a late-posted adjustment.
The balance can dip below zero because Amazon can deliver up to twice the daily budget on a strong day and posts spend after the fact. A forum post from an Amazon staff member on the Seller Central India forum, titled How to Stop Draining Your Ad Budget NOW, gives the example of a ₹1,000 daily budget spending ₹2,000. When the wallet cannot cover it, the balance goes negative and campaigns stop until you clear it.
Fix: recharge for the negative amount plus your next week of spend. Then look at daily budgets that are far above what you intend to spend, because those are what cause the overrun.
Wallet top-ups are not the taxable event; ad spend is. Amazon issues tax invoices for advertising with 18% GST, and you claim input credit on them. A Seller Central India forum thread titled How to get GST invoices for Amazon Ads Wallet paid Invoices reports that wallet-paid invoices sometimes do not appear in the usual invoice download, and a Seller Support case is the way to get them. Our invoice and GST guide has the monthly routine.
Accounts not on the wallet pay for advertising in arrears: Amazon bills a card on file when charges reach a threshold or at the end of the cycle, or deducts ad spend from the next disbursement. The Amazon Ads help page on payment methods lists the options for each account type. The wallet differs in three ways: money goes in before spend, campaigns stop when it runs out rather than running up a bill, and the invoices sometimes need chasing. Prepaid also means the balance is a cash reserve you have to plan, especially before a sale, when spend can double for a week.
You cannot usually choose between the models; Amazon assigns them. If your account has moved to the wallet, the change shows in the billing section and in an email from Amazon Ads.
A forum thread titled I want refund from amazon ads wallet shows the question comes up. Unused balance is not refunded automatically. Raise a Seller Support case under Advertising, state the balance and reason, and expect the refund to go to the bank account on file. Keep a screenshot of the balance at the time of the request.
Before the Great Indian Festival or Prime Day, work out the top-up from the budgets you intend to run, not from last month's spend. Add up the daily budgets you will set for the opening days, multiply by two to allow for Amazon's over-delivery, add 18% GST, and keep that in the wallet from the week before the event. A wallet that empties at 11am on day one costs you the hours when CPCs are highest and your competitors are still spending. Our festival ads guide has the week-by-week schedule; this is the cash side of it.
The wallet tells you money out; campaign reports tell you what it bought. BlooprintAI's reporting dashboard shows daily spend, sales and ACoS across every Amazon campaign, with Excel export, so you can reconcile a month of wallet deductions against performance in one sheet.

Amazon can spend up to twice a daily budget on a given day and posts deductions later. If the wallet cannot cover it, the balance goes negative. Recharge to clear it.
GST is charged on the advertising spend, at 18%, and shown on the tax invoice. The recharge itself is a deposit.
Open a Seller Support case under Advertising and ask for the unused balance to be returned to your registered bank account.
Promotional credits are applied against ad spend before wallet money is used, and they expire. See our promotional credits guide.
