Amazon ads hourly report: what Amazon Marketing Stream does and who needs it

Amazon Marketing Stream is Amazon's push service for near-real-time Sponsored ads data, broken down by hour. It is delivered through the Amazon Ads API into your own AWS account; there is no hourly report to download in the console. Most sellers who search for an hourly report want to know whether dayparting would help. This page covers both.

Why there is no hourly report in the console

Sponsored ads reports in the Amazon Ads console offer Summary or Daily as the time unit. Hourly performance was never part of the reporting product. Amazon added Amazon Marketing Stream to the Ads API programme so that tools and agencies could get hourly and near-real-time data without polling reports. If you only use the console, the finest view you get is a day.

That matters because two decisions depend on hours: when a campaign runs out of budget, and whether conversion rate differs by time of day. The budget report tells you which campaigns hit their cap but not at what hour; the campaign view shows 'out of budget' in the moment but does not keep a history.

What Marketing Stream gives you

Marketing Stream sends datasets, each a stream of records, into a queue or delivery stream in your AWS account. The traffic dataset carries impressions, clicks and cost by hour; the conversion dataset carries orders and sales as they are attributed. Datasets exist for Sponsored Products, Sponsored Brands and Sponsored Display, with budget usage and campaign change messages as separate streams. Amazon's Ads API documentation lists the current datasets and their fields.

In practice you subscribe once per profile and dataset, then store what arrives. The value is the hour column and the freshness; the cost is that you now own a data pipeline.

What it takes to set up

  1. Amazon Ads API access

You or your tool provider need an approved Ads API application with a Login with Amazon client. Our Ads API guide covers the registration steps.

  2. An AWS account

Marketing Stream delivers to Amazon SQS or Kinesis Data Firehose in your account, in the AWS region Amazon specifies for the marketplace. That means IAM policies, a queue and something to consume it.

  3. Storage and a query layer

Hourly records for a mid-sized account add up quickly. You need a database or warehouse and a way to aggregate by hour of day.

  4. Someone to maintain it

Dataset versions change. A subscription that stops delivering silently is a common failure.

Do you need hourly data at all?

You need it if you plan to daypart, that is to change bids or budgets by hour, and want evidence before you do. Our dayparting glossary entry explains the mechanism and why on Amazon it mostly means budget pacing rather than switching ads off. You also need it if you manage many accounts and want same-hour spend alerts.

You do not need it to fix a campaign that runs out of budget by noon. The budget report plus a glance at the campaign view at 10am, 1pm and 5pm for three days tells you the pattern well enough. You also do not need it to judge keyword performance, where the attribution window makes daily data noisy already and hourly data noisier.

The console alternative and where BlooprintAI sits

Without Marketing Stream, work at the day level: schedule the daily campaign and budget reports, split campaigns by placement strategy rather than by hour, and use budget rules for the event days when pacing matters. Most Indian sellers get more from fixing bids on the top twenty keywords than from any hourly view.

BlooprintAI works from Amazon Ads API data at the day level and does not offer dayparting or hourly automation. What it does is the part that hourly tools also leave to you: filtering keywords and campaigns by spend, ACoS and budget utilisation across the account and applying bulk changes after a review step. If you later add Marketing Stream, the two are complementary.

Frequently asked questions

Does Amazon Ads have an hourly report?

Not in the console. Sponsored ads reports go down to daily. Hourly data comes only from Amazon Marketing Stream, a push service in the Amazon Ads API that delivers to your AWS account.

What is Amazon Marketing Stream?

An Amazon Ads API service that streams near-real-time Sponsored ads traffic, conversion and budget data, broken down by hour, into an Amazon SQS queue or Kinesis Firehose in the advertiser's or tool's AWS account.

Is Amazon Marketing Stream free?

Amazon does not charge for the stream itself. You pay for the AWS resources that receive and store it and for the engineering time to run the pipeline.

Can I daypart Amazon ads without Marketing Stream?

You can use budget rules and split campaigns as a proxy, but you cannot schedule bids by hour in the console. Any true dayparting needs a tool built on the Ads API, and BlooprintAI does not offer it.

Does BlooprintAI use Amazon Marketing Stream?

No. BlooprintAI works from Amazon Ads API data at the day level, focused on bulk analysis and bulk changes you approve. It does not provide hourly reports or hourly automation.
