The Instamart ad formats

Instamart runs a self-serve ads portal with four formats. Item Boost is the sponsored listing that appears in search and category results and is bought per click, the model Swiggy moved search ads to when it introduced CPC for item ads. The other formats, banners, brand stores and home-screen takeovers, are impression-based and are mostly booked through Swiggy's brand solutions team.

The word 'Swiggy ads' on its own pulls in restaurant advertising, which is a different product with a different portal. Everything on this page is about Instamart grocery and FMCG listings.

Blooprint's quick commerce ads guide on blooprint.in covers onboarding across Blinkit, Zepto and Instamart; this page stays on the Instamart numbers.

What Instamart ads cost

Worked example for a banner: a ₹50,000 home-screen slot quoted at ₹150 CPM buys 3,33,000 impressions. If 1% click and 5% of clicks order at a ₹300 basket, that is 3,330 clicks, 166 orders and ₹49,900 of sales, a ROAS of about 1. The same ₹50,000 on Item Boost at ₹8 CPC buys 6,250 clicks, and at the same 5% conversion produces 312 orders, roughly twice as many.

Agencies quote Item Boost CPCs anywhere from ₹2 to ₹20 depending on the source and category, and banner CPMs of ₹80 to ₹250. Minimums of ₹15,000 for sponsored listings, ₹25,000 for banners, ₹50,000 for a brand store and ₹1 lakh for a takeover come from a single agency and are unverified. Three-month managed packages are reported at ₹4.5 to ₹9 lakh.

One published example shows dashboard ROAS inflated by about 47% because it was computed on MRP rather than selling price. Recompute before comparing with Blinkit or Zepto.

Managing Instamart ads

  • Judge banners and Item Boost on cost per order, not on CPM against CPC.
  • A sudden ROAS drop is usually a stock-out in a dark store; pause the city, restock, restart.
  • Instamart's coverage is strongest in South India, so city selection changes results more than bids do.
  • Keep ad and organic sales side by side; a listing whose organic rank rises can carry a lower ad budget.
